4 of the Best Museums You Can Drive to From Macedon, NY

1. Historic Palmyra

Open Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 4pm, Historic Palmyra at 132 Market Street is a collection of five museums that allow you to explore the area through time. The Alling Coverlet Museum will let you view the largest collection of hand-woven coverlets in the country, while the Phelps General Store and Residence preserves the 19th-century store and boarding-house so that you can step back in time.

2. Hydesville Memorial Park

Located at 1510 Hydesville Road in Newark, this spooky site is the location where the Fox sisters are said to have discovered spiritualism in 1848, communicating through raps with the spirit of a murdered peddler in the basement of the house. The park is open from 7am every day, and tours of the ruins of the house itself can be arranged by reservation. Test your nerves by visiting this eerie spot and listening for the raps yourself.

3. Ganondagan State Historic Park

This 569-acre site is a national historical landmark dedicated to a Native American theme. Located at 7000 County Road 41 Victor, it commemorates the peaceful Seneca town that stood there from the seventeenth century. The Bark Longhouse has been refurbished and replicated to reflect the life of a Seneca family in the late 1600s, and the Arts and Culture Center tells the story of the Iroquois tribe.

There are two interpretative trails at the site, which opens from Wednesday to Saturday, from 9am to 4pm. There's also a picnic area and with plenty of room for a hamper in the trunk of your Chevy Suburban, it's the perfect opportunity for a meal in the fresh air.

4. The Imaginarium

A great demonstration of how creativity and endeavor can make the world a better place, The Imaginarium showcases different technologies that can be used for a more sustainable world. Generating its own electricity with solar, wind, and even human energy from the gym, it also features a hydropower demonstration, vertical roof garden, art gallery, and education space.

Pay a visit at 500 Bakers Park Rochester between 9am and 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday to get a better idea of what the future could look like.
